Lomi Lomi Massage and Why I do it.

Lomi Lomi Massage Mackay

How I Found Lomi Lomi

I have been to Hawaii many times, but the first time I ever came across this type of massage was at a health and wellness fair back in 2013 at Burleigh Heads, AU. There was lots on offer. I wasn’t really captivated by much until I came upon a demonstration of Lomi Lomi massage given by Tania Hodder of Touch of Aloha Massage on the Gold Coast. It stopped me in my tracks! I was mesmerised by the graceful movements and the beauty of this exquisite massage. I’d never seen or experienced one before. But, I was determined to have one!

Becoming a Lomi Lomi Practioner

To make a long story short, I ended up receiving a few Lomi Lomi massages from different therapists. I love massage, but never really thought about doing it. The Lomi’s I received were the best massages I ever had and I was hooked! Not only did I want to receive more, but I wanted to become a practitioner as well. This began my journey. After much research, in my opinion, Tania was the best and she became my teacher. I completed the foundations and advanced courses. Then assisted her and worked side by side with her in her week-long live-in courses. I also did the organic vegetarian cooking…that’s another story. By immersing myself in all aspects of Lomi, I met so many different people who wanted to learn this massage. I had the opportunity to work and be worked on by a variety of practitioners. These people were trained in Remedial Massage, Deep Tissue Massage, Swedish Massage, Beauty Therapy and more. Through this process, I got to feel so many different hands on me. I embraced and took on the best parts of all that was on offer. It was amazing and ultimately the best experience of hands-on learning I could have received. At the end of the courses, most of these practitioners only wanted to do Lomi Lomi! They found this massage had incorporated and delivered, in a beautiful new way, the best of all they had learned.

What sets Lomi Lomi apart from Remedial Massage, Deep tissue Massage or others

Lomi Lomi Massage is special in offering the benefits of all different massage types with a flowing full-body delivery that makes it unique and satisfying on a whole new level. The long strokes feel like waves rolling over the body. Working the whole body continuously allows the recipient to completely relax. You can work 2 different parts of the body at the same time. The receiver fully succumbs and their muscles loosen and begin to let go. It’s like peeling an onion. With each layer taken away, a person sinks into the rhythm of the movements and finds a place of profound peace. Muscles become more open to any deeper work that is requested or required. The brain can only concentrate on so many areas of the body at once. After a time, while constantly working the whole body, the recipient eases into the bed and forgets to think about the how and whys of what is happening. They can just unwind and slip into a deeper experience.

Why do I choose to do Lomi Lomi Massage?

So many reasons. But to put it simply, It gives me great pleasure to be in the moment with a client. I have watched thousands of people change physically, emotionally and energetically. I have witnessed the physical changes taking place as muscles release and let go. I can feel the body relax. I see the release of stress and anxiety in the faces of my clients. They become softer and more self-aware. Things causing stress seem to drift away for the time. They can deal with things that might otherwise trigger them as they become more open and quiet within themselves. After one of my massages, I have had so many people tell me that they feel taller and much lighter as they move or float into their day. This is a result of uncontracted muscles, loosened joints and a sense of peace. I also feel amazing afterwards. I never get tired of doing Lomi Lomi. It is like a dance for me. Even the deeper work is delivered in a way that invigorates and doesn’t deplete me. I simply love giving, and of course, receiving this massage. Transport yourself to a beautiful place today and try a Lomi Lomi massage with me!

I am a massage therapist and Gokhale Method® Teacher I do Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Massage simply for this reason- "It is the most relaxing massage that I have ever received and in turn, it is what I want to share with others." Lomi Lomi involves long rhythmic strokes as well as deep work relaxing the body, mind and spirit on all levels. I thoroughly love giving this massage. I am also a Gokhale Method Teacher. This method is based on the Book "8 Steps to a Pain Free Back" by Esther Gokhale. Primal Posture™ and alignment for Pain-Free living. After discovering this method for myself, I wanted to teach people how they could help themselves when they are off of my table. Many of my clients suffer from chronic or acute pain. It is one thing for me to help people by applying external forces through massage, it is another to help empower them to help themselves lead a pain-free life 24/7. I suggest starting with massage to loosen and relax the body. This is a great way to help maintain a healthy, relaxed and pain-free body and a calm and peaceful disposition. Once the body is open to more learning and correction, I recommend learning The Gokhale Method® to lengthen strengthen and align the body enabling a pain-free life everyday! It doesn't involve a lot of exercises or gadgets. It incorporates improved movements that you use while sitting, standing, sleeping, bending and walking. I encourage you to look into it further on www.gokhalemethod.com or contact me with any questions. These two modalities work wonderfully together. One is instant, which is very needed to help us feel ourselves again and relax. Sometimes this is just what is required to get us feeling better quickly and more open to new ideas about how we move. The other is learning how are bodies are meant to move and incorporating this information into our daily lives for the rest of our lives. The Gokhale Method teaches us how to create pain-free movements everyday that become our new habits.
